Proper Handling & Storage

When handling pet food and treats it is a good idea to follow proven kitchen sanitary practices and proper handling procedures, just like when handling any food product. This includes washing hands after handling pet treats and toys, especially those that have been chewed by a pet.

Food bowls should be kept clean and dry, and separate bowls should be used for food and water. Pet owners should avoid cross contamination between pet food and human food, just as they should avoid cross contamination between the foods they eat themselves.

Kibble and dry treats should be stored in a cool, dry place. Canned pet food, and any other similar "wet” products, should be stored in the refrigerator if the entire container is not served to the pet at one time.
