The Pet Food Institute is the U.S. trade association for the makers of cat and dog food.  PFI active members account for 98% of the commercial cat and dog food made in the United States. 

In 2008 domestic retail sales of pet food totaled $17 billion, and  U.S. pet food companies exported an additional $1.3 billion in products.
