WASHINGTON – The Pet Food Institute, whose members make 98 percent of U.S. pet food and treat products, commends Congress for the confirmation of Scott Gottlieb as commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Cathleen Enright, PhD, president and CEO of PFI, commented that PFI and its members look forward to supporting the work of the agency during the continued rollout of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) compliance and enforcement.
“Almost two-thirds of U.S. households have at least one dog or cat – that’s more than 180 million pets and food bowls to fill,” said Enright. “Our members are committed to continuous improvement in food safety. With regard to FSMA implementation, PFI supports the agency’s compliance and enforcement activities, and advancing food safety under a predictable regulatory environment.”
