Since 1993, PFI has sponsored export promotion activities by participating in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Market Access Program, a grant program administered by the agency that helps promote U.S. agricultural commodities and products worldwide. Grants given for this program are matched on a percentage basis by the executing organizations and the industry as a whole.

The PFI Market Access Program works to promote the export of U.S. pet food and treats in overseas markets. The activities include marketing and promotional campaigns, working with local veterinarians to enhance their training in dog and cat nutrition, and working with local rescue groups to promote dog and cat welfare. These activities are executed by in-country representatives under the direction of PFI.

For 2022, the PFI Market Access Program is active in 10 markets (17 countries):

  • Brazil
  • Caribbean (Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago)
  • Central America (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama)
  • China
  • Colombia
  • Mexico
  • Middle East (Israel, UAE)
  • Philippines
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
