COVID-19 and Pet Health

Updated March 20, 2020

U.S. pet food makers recognize that you may have questions about COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), and its impact on pets. There is no current evidence to suggest that pets in the United States might be a source of infection or can transmit COVID-19, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) reminds that if you are self-quarantined, to keep your pet with you. This is an important time to prepare for any outside care of your pets, such as identifying family, friends or a trusted petsitter. Pet owners should also continue to follow sound sanitary practices when interacting with pets, including washing their hands with soap and water.
